doing time, 2000
Material: dual projection video Exhibition: Red Head Gallery, Toronto, 2000 "Well in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd generally get somewhere else- if you ran fast or a long time as we have been doing." "A slow sort of country," said the Queen, "now here you see, it takes all the running you can do to stay in the same place. If you want to get some where you must run at least twice as fast." Lewis Carol, Alice Through the Looking Glass, 1886 Viewers of doing time, encounter video projections of the wake of a boat, the rear window of a moving car, the back of a moving train and a spinning chair. Our point of view is of the water, the road and the railway tracks moving away from us and of sitting in a chair watching the room spinning around us. These continually moving images are metaphors for the way we perceive time, past, present and future. |
